Late November 2024: On the threshold of Advent
God gave us memory that we might have Roses in December JM Barrie
Dear Members and Friends of CSK: Colvend, Southwick and Kirkbean
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la,’Tis the season to be jolly! Goodness me – we need lots of jollification, joy and hope amidst all of our Christmas celebrations in an increasingly fragile, complex and dangerous first quarter of the 21st century. I very much hope that all through this ‘Roses in December Season’ of Advent and Christmas you might feel a renewed sense of God being with us, as we rejoice before and on the Birth Day of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the One who guides, encourages and stays with us, ‘O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till the night is gone, and with the morn those angel faces smile……” as St John Henry Newman wrote.
The becoming flesh of God in the Holy Infant Jesus, the Incarnation, is the greatest gift we will ever receive into our lives, as we respond in glorifying God, just as those Angels sang to the first observers of the Star above the Bethlehem fields. May we hear again the message of the Angels and go once more unto Bethlehem and all that ancient city ever means, remembering the present heartbreak of the Holy Land in the ongoing tragedy of conflict. May our prayer all through this holy Season be for Peace in Jerusalem as the Psalmist wrote : “I was glad when they said unto me: Let us go into the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem”
Please come to any of the Services and bring a friend or ten. All details are also on the website. www.colvendchurch.com
My very best wishes to you and your families for Christmas and for Peace throughout the world in 2025.
Happy Christmas to all in CSK! : Let Carols be Sung for the King of Kings all through Advent.
