The Garden of Eden and the Gate to the Kingdom
The ancient story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden, with the Trees of Life and Knowledge, the Serpent, the Guarded Gates, the Forbidden Fruit, and God walking in his garden in the cool of the evening continue to intrigue, inspire and puzzle.
Eden is both the Garden in which we were born and the Journey's End we all seek and hope for. The story still touches at deep levels addressing our inherent sense of lostness and searching for identity, purpose and meaning. It quietly lies behind much of Jesus' teaching and the hopes that brought such energy and drive to the early disciples in the early church. Our conference will explore the Garden's underlying themes and how they find full expression in the house churches of the earliest Christian communities. This is the energy and drive needed now for the work of nurturing new communities for tomorrow. |
